Iron and copperBiography
Ferruccio Maierna is a sculptor born in Amsterdam in 1969, he lived in Brussels for the period of personal training and subsequently moved to Italy, more precisely to Rome where he currently lives and works.
The influences received in the Belgian academies, the Ecole des arts d'Ixelles and the Anderlecht Academy, brought him closer to metal, which has now become his preferred material for his sculptures: since 2015 his art has focused on reinterpreting oil drums and jars becoming his favorite means of expression.
conceptually close to the creativity of recycling and recovery, the selected material is worked entirely by hand through different processes, more or less rudimentary and sophisticated: compression, lamination, extension...
These are the key words that circumscribe the work of the sculptor Ferruccio Maierna.
Through the visibility of numerous personal and collective exhibitions, national and foreign - Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Poland - Maierna has been involved in the design and creation of furnishing accessories: lamps, tables, jewelery holders, stools, and other projects in the fashion sector including a capsule collection for the Gianni Bravo brand, creating the external covering of the shoe heels.
This year he was selected by an international jury to participate in the thirtieth edition of Miniartexil at the Pinacoteca Civica di Como. In April 2021, commissioned by 'Italia yachts', he created the trophy for the third edition of the Punta Ala Champions Cup in the province of Grosseto, the zonal offshore sailing championship.
As part of his career as a sculptor, Ferruccio Maierna has obtained multiple awards and recognitions, the most recent dating back to 2017, the 'Lewton-Brain Foldform competition' organized in the United States.
